Surviving the Snow in High Performance Summer Only Tires...Test of Driving Skill? or Stupidity?

So we appear to be somewhere in the winter season. (somewhere around Hoth)

Many car enthusiasts can comfortably afford everything about their "budget dream car". Premium gas, maintenance, everything except an alternate set of season tires (winter specifically).

This causes them to drive in the winter and snowy weather in the stock high performance summer only tires their vehicle came with.

On one hand driving with high performance summer only tires through anything more than 1 inch of snow and not hitting a single car, curb, or telephone pole can be bragging rights for most, but on the other hand it can be extremely stupid and only needs to be seen on a Top Gear episode.

Thoughts?

It's dangerous. Snow or no snow, they turn into rocks and some have very little traction. If you can't afford safe tires, you can't afford the car. I got a car this year with summer tires. I was not happy to spend more on tires, but it's safety for you and others and you can't skimp on that.

Inexcusable.

If someone can afford their budget dream car, they can damn well afford to give it the right tires too.

And if winter wheels and tires are a stretch, then they obviously cannot actually afford that car.

If some idiot crashed into me because he was irresponsible in his choice of transportation (tires, car type, etc), I would be pretty pissed. If a person can only afford one car, then the troll better make damn sure it's capable of safely operating in all weather conditions that troll may encounter.

To be sure, this isn't for anyone's safety but mine. I'm selfish. I don't care if you hurt yourself. Hurt me? Now we have a problem.

Summer tires on a inch? Mine are fine on a inch of snow, ice and 2-3 inches is where issues arise (that said, scary as f*ck driving out here in CO on summer tires in a rwd sports car..but I had to for work, as my winter car was out of commission for a week -.-)

It is not just the liquid (rain) or solid (snow/ice) on the road. It is also the temperature.

Good point.
To play devils advocate, what if they can afford it but like many need to budget and save to get them?
